New Mexico State Fair Futurity-RG3
HS GOLDEN EAGLE
by Tracy Gantz
Trainer Javier Duarte has always felt that HS Golden Eagle was a good filly. But even he was surprised by her margin of vic- tory in the $395,708 New Mexico State Fair Futurity-RG3 on Sept. 19.
“The last two or three days before the race the horse acted really good, so we thought we had a pretty good chance to win,” said Duarte, who trains HS Golden Eagle for owner Lucina Salas Lopez. “We never thought that we would win by that much, though.”
Going into the Futurity final, Dashin Approach and BF Shes Outrageous were con- sidered the horses to beat. In five starts, Dashin Approach had won three races, including the New Mexico Breeders Futurity-G3, and fin- ished second twice. He had qualified the third fastest and was made the 3-2 narrow favorite over fastest-qualifier BF Shes Outrageous, winner of the Desert Classic Futurity and a qualifier to the Rainbow Futurity-G1.
