 Altoona Derby
ONE KOOL DREAMER
by Tracy Gantz
Eleven years ago, Brenda Reiswig made a $10,700 purchase at Heritage Place, an invest- ment that has paid off handsomely. That yearling
filly, One Kool Wagon, went on to earn $21,324 on the track and win two races. Today she is the dam of two stakes winners, including One Kool Dreamer, winner of the $119,730 Altoona Derby at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 24.
One Kool Dreamer qualified the fastest for the 400-yard Altoona
Derby. She went off as the
second choice to Kool And
Fabulous, another daughter of One Kool Wagon, who had won the $118,600 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby under jockey Edwin Escobedo. Reiswig bred and races both fillies.
Escobedo had qualified both of One Kool Wagon’s daughters, and he stuck with Kool And Fabulous
Jim Bader Futurity
in the final. Luis Valenzuela took over on One Kool Dreamer, and they came out of
the gate perfectly from the 4-post, with One Kool Dreamer going right to the lead. She never relinquished it, scoring by 3/4-length in :19.688, posting a 98 speed index.
Reiswig bred both fillies in Oklahoma, One Kool Dreamer, a daughter of Hes Relentless, and Kool And Fabulous, a daughter of One Fabulous
Eagle. One Kool Wagon has two other starters, including winner One Kool Hero, also bred and raced by Reiswig.
One Kool Wagon’s pedigree has plenty of black type. First Kool Baby, the dam of One Kool Wagon, is a multiple graded winner, and First Kool Baby’s dam is Champion Kool Kue Baby.
Purty Darn Quick (Jess Louisiana Blue-Now Margaret), bred by Tom
Bradbury and John Hammes and owned by Hammes and the estate of Thomas Bradbury, finished second. Stormy Smith rode the gelding for Hammes, who is also the trainer. Purty Darn Quick won the 2020 Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge Stakes.
Bonifacio Quiroz rode FDD Princess (FDD Dynasty-Viborita) to third for owner Thomas Scheckel and trainer Shawna Manriquez. FDD Princess won this year’s Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge Stakes.
Completing the field were Tres Evidence (Tres Seis-Kpax), B Boujee (Tres Seis-Glory Rider), Kool And Fabulous (One Fabulous Eagle- One Kool Wagon), Wieburg (Ivory James-Hollie Jollie), Bayou A Cartel (Corona Cartel-Louisana Corona), Im Jess Good (Jess Good Candy- Madresita), and Liberti (American Runaway- Bovet). Paint Me Brown was scratched.
the runner-up for Lisa Baumeister, failing to reach the winner’s circle for the first time in her four-race career. Wayne Garner is the trainer and jockey Cristian Esqueda had the riding assignment.
TS Jess Watch Me Fly (Apollitical Jess- Agent Carter), the fastest qualifier, placed third. Thomas Scheckel home-bred the filly, who is trained by Jason Olmstead and had Edwin Escobedo aboard.
Rounding out the order of finish: Kool Aid Wagon (Lil Kool Wagon-Shesa Eye Of Rose) was fourth, followed by Candy And Corona (Jess Good Candy-Cartels Belle), Ceeloo (Lil Kool Wagon-Talkin Dirty), Kiss And Teller (Kiss My Hocks-Tellher To Fly), Lil Pistol Pete (Lil Kool Wagon-Chargin To The Lead) and Fly Pesty Fly (Talkalota Bull-Sixy de Strawfly). Going Gaga was scratched.

       SFS ALICE STRIKES
by John Moorehouse
A13-1 underdog at post time, SFS Alice Strikes bested the field in the $153,340 Jim Bader Futurity, beating favorite Rakin In Mo by a nose in the Sept. 25 stakes event at Prairie Meadows.
Since making her debut in April at Remington Park, SFS Alice Strikes moved to Prairie Meadows. She went winless in her four prior outs, though she did place second in July’s Hawkeye Futurity.
SFS Alice Strikes placed second in her Sept. 4 Jim Bader Futurity trial, clock- ing in with the sixth-fastest qualifying time. There was no catching her, however, in this stakes final.
After breaking from the eight-gate, the two-year-old filly ran third both at the first call and going into the stretch, then made a strong rally to out-nod Rakin In Mo at the wire.
Stacy Charette-Hill conditions SFS Alice Strikes, who finished her 350-yard trip in :17.956, posting an 86 speed index. Eugenio Navarrete Jr., who rode her in the trials, was aboard for the fillies maiden victory.
The sorrel filly brought home a $69,003 payday for her owners/breeders at Sunflower Stables LLC. SFS Alice S trikes’ career earnings now total $89,397.
Sunflower Stables bred SFS Alice Strikes out of So Striking, a stakes-
placed mare who finished second in the 2007 running of the West Texas Juvenile Invitational. So Striking’s dam, Marys Moo Vin First, is a fellow stakes winner that captured the Ventura Handicap at Los Alamitos back in 2005.
