FLARE FOR ROYALTY
by John Moorehouse
Hear ye, hear ye! Flare For Royalty was crowned as a stakes winner in just his sec- ond career out, winning the $82,480 Cherry
Creek Futurity by three-quarters on Aug. 27 at Arapahoe Park.
Hugo Barron-Sierra owns Flare For Royalty, a two-year-old gelding who is part of the first crop by his sire Flare For Ivory, who sired three of the competitors in this futurity.
Although Flare For Royalty won his trial, which also marked his maiden out, he came into this stakes on the bump spot, securing the 10th spot in the field with a :17.637 time in his 330-yard qualifying heat on Aug. 12.
In the stakes final, Flare For Royalty proved signifi- cantly quicker, navigating the same distance in :16.904 for a 98 speed index— although benefitting from

an 8 mph tailwind. Jockey James Flores brought the gelding out of the 8-gate and had him running third going into the first call, then a close second as he reached the stretch. Flare For Royalty continued to drive for the finish line, surpassing Runs Naked and hitting the wire first by a neck.
Jose Barron trains Flare For Royalty, whose stakes win produced a $32,992 payday that
improved the gelding’s total bankroll to $35,812.
Jerry and Shannon Fizer bred Flare For Royalty out
of Royalclassic Express, a 2000 mare with seven wins of her own as a racer and a six- figure bankroll. Her competi- tive record includes a pair of stakes victories, both at Los Alamitos, where she raced her entire career.
Second-fastest qualifier Runs Naked (Foose-Runnin
Naked) got caught late but finished second by daylight for Mason King. The Lupe Chavez trainee had Jesus Olivas in the irons.
Streakan James Jr (Jesse James Jr-TLM Streakin Joy) finished third for Rivera Quarter Horse Racing Inc. Uriel Delgado is the trainer and Adrian Morales did the riding. Streakan James Jr’s half-brother, Bux Streakin, won the Lucille Rowe Derby on this same card by disqualification.

       SP ECHO MOUNTAIN
by Michael Compton
SP Echo Mountain led every step of the way and refused to be caught in the $98,500 Sweetwater Downs Futurity on Sept. 11. It was
the initial stakes score for the daughter of JR Dynasty Mountain.
Ridden by Joe Dominguez, SP Echo Mountain broke smartly in first place and had the lead at the start of the 350-yard test. The brown filly was challenged throughout by Mound Valley Eagle and jockey Jesus Valenzuela, but SP Echo Mountain proved stubborn in
the stretch and held her stable-
mate at bay to win wire-to-wire
by a head at the finish.
Trained by Riley Moosman, SP Echo Mountain stopped the timer in a fast :17.457, earning a 103 speed index. The final clocking was not far off the :17.200 track record set in 1993 by LHT Streakin Bid.
In winning for the third time in five career starts, SP
Echo Mountain added the $39,400 winner’s share to her coffers, boosting her bankroll to $52,535 for owner Dennis Woolsey.
She dominated her trial heat on Aug. 28, winning by 1 3/4-lengths for the fifth-fastest time of :17.65.
Bred in Utah by Spencer Peterson, SP Echo Mountain is out of Echo Creek Canyon, who was bred and raced by Peterson. The mare has produced two stakes winners from two starters,
including Cady Shack Creek, winner of the 2021 Wyoming Downs Derby.
Mound Valley Eagle
(One Fabulous Eagle-Royal Fooseperrypie) was sec-
ond for owners Eddie and Andrea Jensen, and trainer Riley Moosman. Abigail Kawananakoa bred the multiple stakes-placed gelding and three- time winner in Idaho. Mound Valley Eagle owns stakes- placings in the Hadley/Giles
