It was the running of the $41,000 Idaho Cup Futurity on Sept. 12, and fastest qualifier Katie Perry didn’t disappoint. The 350 yard
stakes was held at Pocatello Downs. Katie Perry scored in her Aug. 28 trial
heat by 2 1/4-lengths from the 1-gate, and she drew the8-post in the finals.
The sorrel filly fought the good fight, breaking 8th and running in 6th at the first call. At the half way point,
she was a head in front.
With encouragement from

a strong driving finish, they
crossed the finish line a neck
in front to stop the timer in
:17.691 for a 94 speed index.
The daughter of Five Bar Cartel also earned the first place check, which was worth $16,400. That ups her lifetime earnings to $24,938, her race record
Elko Intermountain Futurity
stands at 4 wins in 7 career starts. Katie Perry was winning her first stakes in this race. She was a finalist in the Bitterroot Futurity-G3 and Crush The Curve Futurity - racing at Pocatello Downs her entire career.
Bryon Goody bred Katie Perry in Idaho, out of the winning daughter of Mr Jess Perry, Sexy Perry. Katie Perry is her first foal. Her 3rd dam Sexy Socialite, a daughter of Dash For
Cash, was second in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G2.
Her team includes owner/ breeder Bryon Goody and trainer Mark Hanson.
RTM Belle (Ivory James- RTM Say Your Prayers)
came into the finals with the fourth fastest clocking. She improved her position by finishing second for owner RTM Stables LLC. The Mark Hanson trainee had Jesus Canales in the irons.
Five Bar Rockstar (Five Bar Cartel-Genre) improved his fifth fastest qualifying time to a third place finish in the finals. He is owned/ trained by Lynn B. McNeely and Clay Teeter was in the saddle. Five Bar Rockstar is another home bred for Bryon Goody. The gelding sold through the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale through Lazy E Ranch LLC as agent. The colt sold for $9,500 to Lynn McNeely.

Raced in two states, including Idaho, Five Bars Happy has won two of six races and has banked $16,695. The filly also was a finalist in the 350-yard Bitterroot Futurity-RG3 at Pocatello Downs on July 30.
DP Sassy (Foose-Five Bar Fly) was secondfor her owner, Ben L. McKinney. Jesus Canales rode the filly for trainer Sergio Canales.
Jess Your Corona (Daguerre-Stoli Your Corona) ran third for his owner, Adan Marin. Jesus Afandor rode the gelding for trainer Cesar Luna.

Five Bars Happy, a daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Five Bar Cartel owned and trained by Adrian Zavala, was a prompt 4-5
favorite in the $22,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity at the Elko County Fair meet in Nevada on Sept. 6.
Ridden by Julian Zavala, Five Bars Happy went 350 yards in :17.750, and her win-
ning margin was a short nose from 7-1 third choice DP Sassy, who was clocked in :17.757.
The Oklahoma-bred sor- rel filly earned the $8,800 winner’s share of the purse from her first stakes victory.
Five Bars Happy posted the fastest qualifying time to the Elko Intermountain Futurity, as she made her local debut with a 1-length win on Aug. 27. A $13,000 purchase by Zavala at this year’s Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, the filly was bred by Glacia Fagan.
Five Bars Happy is out of winner JM Onfire, who finished third in the 2015 Ruidoso Derby-G1.
The filly’s second dam, winner Special Copauino, produced Special Anywhere, a half-sister to JM Onfire who foaled three stakes winners, including Grade 3 win- ner Special Gold. Special Copauino also produced Hot Cappucino, a full sister
to JM Onfire who ran third in the 2013 Kindergarten Futurity-G2 at
Los Alamitos.
Five Bars Happy traces
back to her third dam, Copauino, a winning daughter of Beduino TB and a finalist in the 1991 La Primera del Ano Derby-G1. Copauino foaled Worth A Look, a half-sister to Special Copauino who won two graded stakes in California from 1999-2000 in the 1999 PCQHRA Breeders’
