Jess Burner Memorial-RG1
NO MIRES A LA LUNA

No Mires A La Luna, a homebred 5-year-old geld- ing campaigned by Byron Woodard, earned his second stakes victory of the Ruidoso Downs summer
meet in the 400-yard Jess Burner Stakes-RG2 for New Mexico-breds on Sept. 4.
Prepped by Marc Jungers and ridden by Lucas Constantin, No Mires A La Luna defeated Flashing Moolah by a 1/2-length in :19.544 while racing on a muddy and sealed track. The bay gelding banked the $30,000 winner’s share of a $50,000 purse.
No Mires A La Luna was coming off of a 1/2-length score in the 400-yard Zia Stakes-RG2 for state-breds at Ruidoso Downs on July 31. The geld- ing’s dam, Dont Looke Ethel, is a winning 14-year- old daughter of 2002 All American Derby-G1 winner Genuine Strawfly.
Raced in Oklahoma during the spring, No Mires A La Luna scored a 3/4-length victory in a 350-yard allowance-optional claiming sprint at Remington Park on April 10. All told, he has won six of 25 starts and has earned $514,065, and his four career stakes wins include the 2019 Zia Derby-RG2 at Ruidoso Downs. No Mires A La Luna’s resume includes a third-place finish in the 2018 All American Futurity-G1.
Flashing Moolah (First Moonflash-Chicks Chamisa) was second for owners W.L. Mooring, Desiree Mooring, Mike Abraham, and Randy Eastburg. Tanner Thedford rode the gelding
for trainer Trey Wood. Perrys Regard (Chicks Regard-Ms Perry Mason) finished third for owner South Texas Longhorn LLC. The gelding was ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer Casey Lambert.
Diamond And A Half (First Moonflash-Cuz Shez Famous), Colby James (Jesse James Jr-Sandy June Bug), Don Chuy C (First Moonflash-Jess Say Bye Bye), Magna Moon (First Moonflash-BHB Mighty), and Six Pack Fame (Jesse James Jr-Sandys Fame) completed the order of finish.

HERE COMES CANDY

Rachuan Suarez’s Here Comes Candy, the fastest qualifier and odds-on favorite in a field of 10 two year olds, earned her first career stakes win in the
$84,244 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge-G3 at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 28.
Ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer John Stinebaugh, Here Comes Candy covered 350-yards in :17.625, and her margin of victory was a neck from Famous Coronas. The sorrel Jess Good Candy filly banked $38,752 while scoring a berth in the Oct. 23 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 at Albuquerque Downs. Here Comes Candy has won three of five races and has earned $51,812.
Here Comes Candy was bred in Oklahoma
by PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC, and she was coming off of a 1/2-length win in the first of four trials to this race on Aug. 14. The filly is out of Candy Cartels Cat, a homebred daughter of Red Storm Cat who won the 2016 Decketta Stakes-G3 at Remington Park. Here Comes Candy’s second dam, Candy Cartel, won two stakes including the Lubbock Stakes-G3. The filly traces back to her fourth dam, Send Me The Candy, a homebred daughter of Leaving Memories who won the 1996 Remington Park Futurity-G1.

BAD MONKEY

Bad Monkey, a homebred son of the Corona Cartel stallion Capo De Capi owned and trained by Dean Frey, kept his perfect record at Ruidoso Downs
intact with his victory in the $55,726 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge on Aug. 28.
Ridden by Benito Baca, Bad Monkey covered 400 yards in :19.903, and his winning margin was a head from Painted Snowclouds. The gray gelding earned $25,634 from his fourth win in as many starts at Ruidoso Downs.
Bad Monkey set the 3rd-fastest qualifying time with his nose victory in the second of two trials on Aug. 14. The gelding was bred in California, and he is out of Girls Eye Too, a daughter of the Dash For Cash stallion Mr Eye Opener. His second dam, the stakes- winning First Down Dash mare Docs First Card, ran second in two graded futurities at Los Alamitos in 1996, including the Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1.
Raced in four states, Bad Monkey has won six of 11 starts -- including three of six at the 400-yard dis- tance -- and he has banked $163,580. The gelding has won three stakes, including last year’s $89,000 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge-G3 and $126,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2.
Second-placd Painted Snowclouds (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Snow Clouds) earned $11,145 for
his owner Rick Crispi. Francisco Calderon rode
the gelding for trainer Clint Crawford. Apolitica (Apollitical Jess-Madresita) ran third for owner Jose E. Guzman. Juan Pulido rode the filly for trainer Santos Carrizales Jr.

  Zynda Racing’s Famous Coronas (One Famous Eagle-Sippn Secret Coronas) finished in second. Jimmy Dean Brooks rode the colt for trainer Eddie Willis. Ill Be Gone (Big Lew-Fast Red Rose) ran third for owner Reliance Ranches LLC. Noe Garcia Jr. rode the homebred gelding for trainer Mike Robbins.
