New Track Record at 330 Yards at Hipodromo de las Americas
SPEEDY MOON FIRST
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translated by Speedhorse
Speedy Moon First, a six-year-old grey mare, had a spectacular debut at the Hipodromo de las Americas on March 6, 2022, in an allowance at 330 yards.
The mare started from the 8-post under her rider Martín Utrera Morales, forming part of a group of 11 runners. From there she began her swift onslaught to establish a clear dominance by 1 3/4-length over Island Candy.
At the end of the race a time of :16.14 (SI 105) was reported, which exceeds by .02 the :16.16 current as a Track Record since Apr. 21, 2013, achieved by the three-year-old filly
SF Banko Aguerrido.
Speedy Moon First was bred in the United States by Grant Farms LLC and is the daughter of First Moonflash out of the mare Dominating Speed by Duel Fuel. In the U.S. she ran nine races with two victories. She won her maiden at Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Aug. 24, 2019, at 220 yards, while her second win was at Lone Star Park at 250 yards on Sept. 5, 2020. Her
last official race in the United States was at Sam Houston Race Park on May 13, 2021, where she finished fifth and was claimed for $10,000 by
the Cuadra Los Gavilanes.
“The mare arrived in Mexico at the end
of May 2021 and needed a good period of adaptation. Before this commitment, we
ran her three times in even races (under the pseudonym of ‘La Gavilana’); although she won two of them, she still did not reach the current competitive level,” said Rubén Romo Hernández, trainer of the sprinter. He added, “She is nominated to run in the Chirina Glorys Classic, scheduled for Apr. 3.”
This is the second record time achieved in the current season of the Hipodromo de las Americas. Previously, it was Divas First Anita who surpassed the track record for 110 yards, which is in the process of being recognized by the AQHA as a New World Record.
The colt Island Candy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Eye On This Candy) finished in second place, under the direction of Luis Antonio Aguilar, for owner Cuadra Cartas Blancas and trainer José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona.
Third place went to the Player X Three (Mr Jess Perry-Mischievous Player), with Mario Alberto López Marmolejo in the irons. He is
owned by Bronco Rider Stable and trained by Ismael Parra Martínez.
Tyler Durden (Volcom-Little Affection), MSM Lets Party (Game Patriot-Shez Here To Party), Pollitical Scandal (Apollitical Blood- Whos Kissin Who), Thelouisianadiamonds (The Louisiana Cartel-Pay Me Diamonds),
RG Little One (Swingin Corona-Little Prairie), Class N Attitude (Volcom-Hiclass Attitude), Michoacana One (Bullish One-Michoacana First) and BR Guerrero Azteca (Southern Corona-Howbad Do Youwantit) completed the order of finish.
