Abigail Kawananakoa Passes Away
2018 AQHA Hall of Fame member and Hawaiian
Princess Abigail Kawananakoa, 96, died
on Dec.
11. Abigail was born in 1926 as the last of the royal lineage descended from King Kamehameha of Hawaii. She developed a
passion for Quarter Horse racing and was the #14 all-time leading breeder with earners of over $10.5 million and the #7 all-time leading owner with earners of more than $7 million. She was named the AQHA Champion Owner in 1994-1995. Among her many broodmares was Trippy Dip TB, also an AQHA Hall of Fame member who produced Florentine. She also owned Evening Snow, the first horse in Quarter Horse history to break the 21-second mark at the quarter mile when he clocked :20.94 in 1996. She was the owner of A Classic Dash, who earned over $1 million
and won the 1993 All American Futurity. She was the breeder of 2-time Champion Royal Down Dash, Champion Royaltime Classic, Champion This Snow Is Royal, and Champion Time For A Cigar, and was the owner of Champion Significant Heart and 2-time AQHA Broodmare of the Year Timeto Takeoff. Kawanankoa supported many charities. She was a supporter of Colorado State University’s equine medicine program where she received an honorary degree in 2016. She supported Hawaiian institutions, including the Iolani Palace Bishop Museum, and Hawaiian language and history projects. She is survived by her partner of 20 years, Veronica Gail.
Signs Of Livewire Dies
2022 racing Paint phenom Signs Of Livewire si 96 (CRM Livewire-Signs Of PYC QH, PYC Paint
Your Wagon) died from complications of laminitis on Oct. 27. The 2020 Paint stallion
was to stand his first year in 2023
at stud at Bob Moore Farms in Oklahoma. Owned by Jeff Adams, Signs Of Livewire
was undefeated from six starts in 2023 – his
first year to race. The colt earned $217,811 winning the 2022 Speedhorse Graham Paint
& Appaloosa Futurity-G1, Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 and the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 – all of them wire-to- wire and as the fastest qualifier. He was trained by Dee Keener and ridden in all his races by Jesus Salazar. He is the #1 leading Paint money earner of 2022 and ranks #12 on the all-time Paint money earner list. “Unfortunately, despite the best of efforts, Signs Of Livewire continued to decline,” said Bob Moore Farms manager Mikayla Yonkers after the horse underwent surgery due to a career ending injury. “Our hearts are broken, not only for our friend and client, Jeff Adams, but for the loss of such a fine stallion. In a very short time, he won us all over with his kind demeanor and personality.”
Triple Vodka Dies
2009 bay stallion Triple Vodka (Tres Seis-Newport Lily, Stoli) died Oct. 29 after suffering from a severe colic episode. In 2021, the stallion underwent a successful life-saving surgery to amputate his right front leg below the fetlock. Triple Vodka was the property of and had been standing at Zerlotti Genetics
Ltd. in Pleasanton, Texas. He finished in
the money in all eight of his starts with five victories. He was the winner of the TQHA Sale Futurity-G2 and Old South Derby and was fourth in the Firecracker Derby with $224,670 in earnings. Triple Vodka was a multiple stakes sire of 35 race winners and $655,360 in earners from limited starters, including 2-time stakes winner Vodka At Moonlight.
   BP Wagon Train Dies
BP Wagon Train (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Ladys Is First, First Down Dash) was euthanized the first week of November due
to complications from founder. The 2011 stallion had been standing at Delta Equine Center in Vinton, Louisiana. BP Wagon Train earned $263,988 winning six races, including the Mighty Deck Three Stakes and the Retama Park Derby. He also was second in the Southwest Juvenile Championship-G1, third in the Sooner State Stakes-G1 and Mr Master Bug Handicap, and a finalist in the Heritage Place Futurity-G1, Dash For Cash Derby-G3, Mr Jet Moore Stakes-G3 and Mr Jess Perry Stakes. Owned by Fabian Hernandez, BP Wagon Train was a top 15 leading third year sire with 14 winners and earnings of nearly $300,000 from limited starters.
