Running for a Year-End Award? Check Your Eligibility Today
APHA year-end awards are coming up. Are you eligible? Remember that these prestigious titles are awarded to the owner or lessee
of record as of December 31 of the racing year—so long as their APHA membership is current and the APHA Racing Participation Fee is paid.
This annual racing participation fee—$25 before March 1 and $100 after that date—is assessed to all recorded owners of APHA race starters. Owners of multiple horses only pay once if all the horses are owned under the same membership number. Non-payment doesn’t impact a horse’s race record as records are kept on all horses; however, a horse is only eligible for an award if the fee is paid. Renew your membership online at apha.myshowday.com or visit apha.com/racing to pay the fee today.
Planning on Double-Registering Your Horse? Read This First!
If you plan to race, remember
that ALL double-registered horses must
have the same name at APHA and AQHA. When registering your American Paint Horse—and if it will be registered with AQHA as well—make sure you select a name that is acceptable to both registries. Your horse WILL NOT be allowed to race AT ALL if the names are not the same.
Reminder: Registration Requirements for
Stakes Races
Paint Horses must meet the following requirements to be eligible to enter stakes races, effective January 1, 2013:
1. Regular Registry Horses must have at least one APHA-registered parent in the first generation.
2. Solid Paint-Bred Horses must have two APHA Regular Registry parents in the first generation or at least one APHA Regular Registry parent in the first generation and at least one Regular Registry parent in the second generation.
3. Horses foaled prior to 2013 must have one APHA Regular Registry parent in the first generation.

Paint racing owners asked for more opportunities to race, and APHA delivered. The first annual APHA Dash For Colors Stake race will be running at Will Rogers Downs in 2023. This will give 3-year-olds a chance to run for
a guaranteed purse of $15,000. Stay tuned for more information.
The Second Annual Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile, a race for two-year-olds at 350
yards and a purse of $20,000, will be held
on the same day as the Speedhorse Paint

Stay tuned to these pages and apha.com/ racing for more information on both events.

Hats off to APHA, TPHBA and Wild West Promotions for another successful barrel race. Visit Wild West Promotions Facebook page for complete results.
