speaking, showing any emotion is a sad
zero.
During the whole show, we can see
Spongebob standing upright with his
supposed ‘back’ straight. However,
Porifera is a phylum of invertebrates which
means they have no backbones. Thus, if
Spongebob was an actual sponge, he would
be laying on the ground and doing just that
because sponges are mostly immobile.
So I hate to break it to you, but the quirky,
energetic and fun loving Spongebob you
know, is all a lie.
Now moving on to what Nickelodeon did
get right, in the episode, ‘I Had An Accident’
SpongeBob gloats about his ability to filter
feed to stay alive which actually is true.
Sponges have pores which can absorb
nutrients and excrete waste substances. 1
point for Nickelodeon.
Even though sponges cannot actually
socialize with other organisms they are
however known for coordinating and
interacting with other organisms which
just might’ve been the inspiration for
Spongebob’s extroverted, entertaining and
sociable personality.
Setting aside the details nickelodeon
got wrong, Spongebob does have some
biological truth to it (more than what is
mentioned) and creates an impressive
comedy for kids and adults. I definitely
recommend watching it on family night or
alone, just for fun.
