            PATHOLOGY OF THE BILE DUCTS
               CHOLEDOCHOLITHIASIS
▪ Choledocholithiasis describes the presence of gallstones within the bile ducts.
– Stones typically form in the gallbladder and move into the ducts.
– Gallstones located within the common bile duct are considered the
most common cause of obstructive jaundice.
– Most stones will be located near the ampulla of Vater and can be difficult to image sonographically secondary to neighboring bowel gas shadows.
