SONOGRAPHY OF THE
GALLBLADDER
• Patientswhohavehadarecentcholecystecomymayhaveresidualfluidinthe gallbladder fossa.
• RUQsonographymaybeneededtofurtherassessthesepatientsforresidual choledocholithiasis or post operative complications.
• Thenormalgallbladderappearssonographicallyasananechoic,pear-shaped structure.
• Thesizeofthegallbladderisvariable,thoughthenormalrangesaresaidtobe 8-10 cm in length and no more than 5 cm in diameter. The gallbladder wall should measure no more than 3 mm in thickness.
