The myth of Iridanos river and the willow tree
comes from the Greek Mythology. The ancient
and modern Greeks call the willow tree weeping
willow, as its branches remind of a crying pose.
The ancient Geeks used to have a myth for
every river and every tree, so this river was the
place where the son of Helios died, his body lies
there. The presence of willow trees near the
water is justified by the mourning sisters, who
were turned into trees by the Olympian Gods, so
that they can always be by the river, where their
brother lies.
