Some interesting information about the
etymology of the willow tree:
Looking back to the roots of the name, we are
led to Ancient Greece, where the tree was called
«ελίκη» (eliki). In Saxon it was turned into
“helix”, then “wellix” and then, today’s “willow”.
No matter what, the official name of the willow
tree is the Latin word “salix”, which also derives
from the Greek «ελίκη» (eliki).
