                 La Pacifica Handicap
CHANCE IT NOW
by Tracy Gantz
Both Chance It Now and jockey Victor Salazar are relative newcomers to the stakes ranks. Chance It Now was winning the first stakes of her
career in the $30,000 La Pacifica Handicap at Los Alamitos on May 8, while Salazar was winning his second stakes at the track. The native of Mexico has only ridden at Los Alamitos since August, but he has quickly started to rack up plenty of victories.
In the 350-yard La Pacifica, Chance It Now drew the outside post and came away in seventh. She put on a burst of speed toward the wire to nose out stablemate Roving Kind by a head in :17.713.
Scott Willoughby trains Chance It Now for Dr. Ed Allred, who bred the filly in California from his homebred Elans Last. The mare has produced 11 winners from 14 starters, including stakes winners Chance To Excel, Chance To Fire, and Nymph. JET WINGS ONE
by Tracy Gantz
Ayear away from the races didn’t keep Jet Wings One from the winner’s circle. The filly returned to Los Alamitos after the long layoff to post a narrow victory in the $38,242 Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge on May 23.
With Jose Nicasio in the irons, Jet Wings One rocketed out of the starting gate ahead of the field. Though she lugged in slightly, she kept to her task and held off the closers to score by a nose in :19.791 for 400 yards.
Monty Arrossa trains Jet Wings One for owner/ breeder Dan Moon. Jet Wings One last year won her first two races and finished second in the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2. Her only loss, she finished that race only a head back from the winner. Nicasio has piloted Jet Wings One in all of her races.
Moon bred Jet Wings One in Idaho from his homebred Wayward Wings, winner of the 2011 Hawthorne Futurity. The mare has produced two starters, both winners, including Unique Ways, who finished third in the 2019 Roche Equine Futurity for Moon.
A Dash Of Sign (Tempting Dash-A Tres Of Paint), owned by Reliance Ranches LLC, trained by Mike Robbins, and ridden by Ruben Lozano, finished in second place. The filly has won two of 12 previous races.
Oscar Peinado rode favored Ilushion Eagle (One Fabulous Eagle-Oklahoma Rain TB) to third. Jaime Gomez trains the Mexican-bred gelding for Salome Gallegos. Ilushion Eagle broke his maiden in his final 2020 start and won his first two 2021 races from nine prior starts.

He was in second at the first call and had a neck lead by the top of the stretch. He crossed
