Here is a little history on Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi. It was founded in 1802 and name for a man named James Wilkinson. In 1810 the
population was about 5,000 and by 1860 it population
was 15,933. This grow of people was largely due to the number of slaves working on the many plantations in Wilkinson Coun- ty. It had got so bad the Edward McGehee cofounded the Mis- sissippi Colonization Society, whose goal was to send freedmen and free people of color to Liberia in West Africa. The organi- zation was modeled after the American Colonization Society, to focused on freedmen from Mississippi, where slaves outnum- bered whites by a three-to-one ratio. https://en.m.wikipedia. org/wiki/Edward_McGehee. If slaves and freedmen outnum- ber free white people, why didn’t the black people take over. This is simple FEAR! If you have to know more about our history the internet is a wealth of information.
