THE FARMHOUSE

Το κτίριο του Αγροκηπίου ανοικοδομήθηκε το 1922-23,
συνιστώντας την πρώτη συντονισμένη προσπάθεια
στην κατεύθυνση της διαχείρισης
της υφιστάμενης γεωργικής παραγωγής.
Ειδικότερα, η ενασχόληση με τη γεωργία ως βιοποριστικό
επάγγελμα της πλειοψηφίας των κατοίκων
και ο συνεχώς αυξανόμενος όγκος παραγωγής,
υπέδειξαν την ανάγκη εγκατάστασης ενός σημείου αναφοράς
και διάχυσης των τεχνογνωσιών,
σύμφωνα με τα μέσα της εποχής.
Έτσι, συστήθηκε το πρότυπο αυτό κέντρο, το οποίο
λειτούργησε, ταυτόχρονα, σαν καλλιεργητική μονάδα, σαν
πρακτικό διδασκαλείο και ως φορέας προώθησης νέων
προϊόντων και μεθόδων παραγωγής,
με στόχο τη βελτιστοποίηση τόσο της ποιότητας
όσο και της ποσότητας των αγαθών.
Το έντονα μνημειακό ύφος του μαρτυρά την οικονομική
ευρωστία της εποχής στην Πτολεμαΐδα και σηματοδοτεί
την έναρξη μιας περιόδου ακμής για την πόλη.
Η χωροθέτηση δεν είναι τυχαία, διότι ότι την εν λόγω
χρονική περίοδο,
αφενός η πλειοψηφία των αγροτεμαχίων και καλλιεργειών
εκτεινόταν σε μία ακτίνα περιμετρικά αυτού, αφετέρου,
βρισκόταν σε άμεση συνάρτηση
με τον κύριο άξονα κυκλοφορίας που διέτρεχε την πόλη.
Αποτελούσε επίσης το κομβικό σημείο διέλευσης
του συνόλου των μετακινήσεων στο ευρύτερο επίπεδο
Εορδαίας.

The “Farmhouse” building was established in 1922-23,
constituting the first coordinated effort towards the
management of the existing agricultural activity in the area.
More specifically, agriculture being the main economic
occupation, as well as, the vastly increased
production of goods, designated the need of establishing
a common reference point, assisting in spreading out
the technical expertise and technological innovations,
occurring at that time.
This pilot infrastructure was, thus, introduced, operating as a
growing unit, a practical training space and, also,
an operational and coordinating entity,
for promoting new products and means,
in order to optimize the quality and quantity of goods.
The monumental aspect of the very exterior indicates the
robustness and abundance, in terms of economic growth of
Ptolemaida City for the time,
marking the inception of a prosperous era.
The site was deliberately chosen, given the fact that the
majority of agricultural parcels spread within an accessible
radius around this specific core
and the direct connection with the main road going across
the city.
Furthermore, the location was significant at a regional level,
due to the neighboring road junctions,
hosting the entire inter-state transport route.
