CULTIVATING EDUCATION (Continued)
Mangaves – While not hardy for us in Maryland, they are
wonderful on the patio in summer. While we are melting in
the heat of summer, Mangaves are thriving. With so many
color options, you can’t buy just one. You need them all!
Filipendula x Red Umbrellas – While my young plants have
yet to bloom, I don’t really care. I love the foliage with dark
purple venation. Reminds me of Tiarella foliage, except
now I can have that look in the sun.

Echinacea x Kismet Intense Orange – This Echinacea is
deep, deep, pumpkin orange in color. I must admit I had
my doubts when I first planted them. They took 2 full years
to really establish and now they are just – wow! Compact
and wonderfully paired with a great blue like Scutellaria
incana or Stokesia laevis.
Chrysanthemum x ‘Campfire Glow’ – Fall mums. I gave
them up years ago. I’m just not into little gumdrop shaped
mounds of mums. Then I tried ‘Campfire Glow’. This is a
truly hardy mum and very late blooming. Like in October
and November late. When mother nature graces us with
frost on flowers it is a wonderful sight to behold, and
‘Campfire Glow’ does not disappoint. A
