Mad River trail
Get ready for a smooth ride
Late next year, you should have a much smoother ride along the Mad River Recreation Trail. MCD has secured funds to resurface a 2.8-mile section of the trail from Eastwood MetroPark to the confluence of the Great Miami River.
“This will be the first resurfacing of this trail since it was constructed over 20 years ago,” says Don O’Connor, MCD chief of construction and planning. “It is an important connection between the Great Miami River and Little Miami River trails.”
The project is scheduled for 2021 and includes tearing out and rebuilding the trail in some areas, resurfacing the entire trail section, and adding safety features.
MCD received more than $314,000 in federal funds distributed by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission. The remainder of the nearly $430,000 project will be paid for by MCD, with support
from Five Rivers MetroParks. The Ohio Department of Transportation will oversee the construction.
The MCD flood protection system is unique in many ways, including the high level of protection it offers, the environmental and recreational opportunities it provides, and the fact that it is almost 100 percent locally funded.
