  Malcom Reed is a man who needs little introduction. If you began your BBQ journey in the 21st century, then you’ve al- most definitely watched one of his videos, read one of his recipes, or listened to one of his podcasts. If there’s a form of BBQ media, you can bet that Malcom and his lovely (and in- dustrious!) wife Rachelle have an iron in that fire somewhere. But where did it all start for him?
Malcom was born into the BBQ
scene, hanging out as a
teenager with his fathers and
his friends in their BBQ team. Their favourite event was the South Haven Spring Fest in their hometown of South Haven. Then, in 2001, Malcom and his brother Waylon, both still in high school, took over their fathers BBQ team, Killer Hogs, when he retired from competition BBQ. Start- ing like we all did in competition BBQ by partying too hard,
the first few years are a bit of a blur, but it wasn’t too long be- fore Malcom and Waylon de- cided they wanted to get serious about competition BBQ. Perhaps it was being called out for displaying their high school sports trophies at the competition site, in an ef- fort to keep up with the BBQ teams displaying their BBQ trophies, but who really knows?
Anyway, things got serious and the BBQ trophies soon replaced the sporting trophies. The first big win was at Memphis in May in 2006 where the lads took out
the Patio Porkers World Champion prize. Highlights over the next 15 years include Hogs for the Cause Grand Cham- pion in 2014, and the Memphis Grill Fest Steak Cook-Off Grand Champion in 2017.
Somewhere along the line, Malcom met Rachelle, also a
