GEORGE STRODE AND MARGARETT ENGLISH WERE MARGARET STRODE’S PARENTS
Bear with me here for a second.......
I have more than 70 autosomal DNA matches of my family members to the Strode family. The matches have been both on Family Tree DNA and on Ancestry.com. There are only four matches to George Strode to date.
There are many more DNA connections to the children of Edward Strode II than to George Strode. This may simply be that more of Edward’s descendants have taken DNA tests, and he had more descendants than George.
DNA has confirmed the relationship of Samuel Strode, Edward Strode III and Martha Strode as siblings. I have had many verifiable matches to all three but not to the other brother, William. There are more matches to Martha Strode’s family than to any other. But there are larger cM matches to Edward Strode III's descendants than to any of the others....in the area of 20 cM.
So, Margaret Strode and Martha Strode were first cousins. Each married a Bryan. Their husbands were frequently associated as brothers, both supposedly descending from Francis Bryan (c.1630-1694) and Sarah Brinker (c.1654-1704). My research on this potential relationship is presented later and it disproves a sibling match between William and Morgan.
Our relationship to Morgan Bryan and Martha Strode's descendants has to be through the Strodes. This is why ThruLines wanted me to research Morgan and Martha Bryan as my probable ancestors. The DNA matches were not coming from Morgan Bryan, but rather from Martha Strode. Margaret and Martha had grandparents in common!
This is most likely the explanation for much of our family lore which has made a connection between our Bryan family and the Boone family.
OK now......On the next two pages I have included charts which show some of our family's relationship to the Strodes.
The first chart, on page 24, shows the descendants of William Strode and Joanne Barnard. This includes George Strode and his daughter Margaret, who married William Bryan, and his niece Martha Strode, who married Morgan Bryan.
