The difference in the spelling of the surname is not of any consequence as many Bryans became Bryants and vice versa even within their own life span.
My first reaction to the Wilmington Hospital list was part excitement and part skepticism. It was very exciting to see Thomas Blair and Alexander Sutherland listed together. Francis had been an apprentice to Thomas Blair and he was brother-in-law to Alexander Sutherland. This confirmed part of the "family lore" about Francis, which is discussed in more detail in the Appendix.
On the other hand I was skeptical that three of Francis' brothers would have been old enough to have fought in 1781. Francis would have been 11.
