􏰀Have you owned other classic cars?
I had one of the stunt cars from Quentin Tarantinos Death Proof – a ’69 Chevrolet Nova SS. Other iconic cars I’ve owned include a Morris Minor, Mini Mayfair, Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z and my old ’53 Plymouth, which I built into a Rat Rod and is counted as my company’s first-ever Rat Rod.
Do you think younger people care for the past now more than ever?
Yes. Through fashion trends unfortunately. Celebrities driving classic cars and wearing vintage clothes is not the right reason for younger people to get into classic cars. I
find that people of all ages think it’s difficult to buy and maintain these cars. The truth is, yes, like with any classic car, some are more expensive than others, but some you can
pick up in running condition for a budget of just 5K. There’s a variety to choose from and with maintenance and parts it’s the same with any other classic car costwise. All servicing, performance and body parts and used, discontinued or hard-to-find parts are also available through my company Wild & Sons.
Does your love of vintage go beyond just the cars?
Yes, my favourite singer is Johnny Cash, I still listen to cassette tapes and vinyl and love wearing vintage leather jackets and boots.
If I had to describe my main lifestyle, it is traditional rockabilly/grease monkey, and with music I like all sorts from Country & Western to Hip Hop!
Would you want to live in the time your car was from? No internet or mobiles, just cars, mail and radio!
Yes, the 1950s. So you could see the legends in person, and things were cheaper, including petrol, and people were always polite!
Does Wild & Sons only restore classic cars? And is it mainly American makes? It’s only pre-1980 American Cars and it’s also customisation and parts and commission builds, ie Rat Rods and Hot Rods.
How can readers can get in touch with Wild & Sons?
Talk to us on Facebook or via the website or come and see us in person at shows. We’ll be at the Buster Lang show at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher on the 13th and 14th of August. We will be unveiling our first own branded unique product there, and running
a raffle where people can win a brand new white Stratocaster guitar. My Pontiac will be on show along with a customer’s 1956 pink Cadillac Sedan DeVille, it’s owned by Ian Coulson – one of the best Elvis impersonators in the country.
Wild & Sons will also be at Brooklands Classic American show on the 4th of September. Come and see us!ve
