P. 27
NARM Affect Core Principle: Sadness & Grief
§Many clients have tremendous guilt in thinking about moving forward after loss
§We want to support clients to differentiate between:
1. The object of their heart’s desire which they have lost
• e.g., their loved one
2. Their heart’s desire itself - which is always here for us inside
• e.g., their tender, loving and longing feelings like gratitude, compassion, etc.
o“’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” §Clinically this can be difficult as moving on for the client may
represent forgetting about or leaving behind their loved one • i.e., “Survivor’s Guilt”
