Do’s Don’ts
If excessive mucus is present, this DO NOT routinely clean the cervix
should be gently removed before or take a cervical swab before
sampling taking the sample
Use either the Cervex Brush on its DO NOT use an endocervical
own or a plastic spatula and brush in isolation
endocervical brush combination.
DO NOT use a wooden spatula
The Cervex brush should be under any circumstances
rotated 5 times in clockwise
direction. The plastic spatula DO NOT use lubricant
should be rotated through 360
degrees and the endocervical DO NOT leave the collection
brush rotated through one quarter device in the vial whilst dealing
to one half turn. with the pt.
Immediately rinse the collected DO NOT over tighten the lid on the
material into the vial. Replace the vial
lid and tighten so that black torque
line on the cap passes the black DO NOT detach the head of the
torque line on the vial to avoid Cervex brush in the vial
leakage.
DO NOT place multiple labels on
Keep the unlabelled portion of the the vial
sample vial free so that the
contents can be seen. DO NOT apply bar coded labels
vertically on the vial
If bar coded labels are used these
must be applied horizontally DO NOT use expired vials
around the vial
DO NOT delay sending the vials to
Samples should be sent to the lab the lab
without delay
