hotographs can evoke memories like few other
items. But digital artist Rebecah Thompson can take
Pphotographs and create a one-of-a-kind work of art
using her quirky - sometimes delightfully absurd - sense of
humor, a computer, and multiple software programs.
Some might look at her work and say it evokes a sense
of surrealism, or neo-Dadaism -which is rooted in the
creation of collage and assemblage. Others don’t look for
any underlying artistic movement influence and just revel
in the feeling the piece conjures. Either way, Thompson is
just pleased her art speaks its truth.
“Digital art is like any other art. it’s simply created using
different tools than the more traditional arts. i use a
camera and a computer as the medium to create my art,”
Thompson says.
“i usually start with several photos, and using multiple
software packages, i combine and manipulate them into
something new and interesting. i can use darkroom type
manipulations to hone color, tone, and exposure. i use
software and a special tablet and pen, which allow me
to draw and paint as if directly on the computer screen.
i also use textures, text, blend modes, and overlays.
But ultimately, it is just a form of online mixed-media:
different photos and effects that can be mixed together
and blended to create a beautiful piece of art.”
