and 90.8%, respectively, in the infected AgNP administered group compared with the infected control group. Changes in the levels of GSH (P < 0.5) were also noted compared with the control group. Further, the hepatic SOD levels decreased in the infected control group (10.027 ± 2.114 IU/mg protein; P < 0.001) compared with the control group (14.464 ± 1.125 IU/mg protein), but the administration of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles had a restorative impact on produced oxidative stress. However, in the intestine and spleen, the SOD levels decreased in the infected control group (4.223 ± 1.434 and 9.64 ± 1.400 IU/mg protein, respectively; P < 0.001) compared with the control group (7.33 ± 2.795 and 13.653 ± 2.255 IU/mg protein, respectively), but the restorative impact of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles was not observed in the infected AgNP administered group. Further, in the AgNP administered group, SOD levels decreased by 1.48% in the liver and by 27.11% and 20.29% in the intestine and spleen, respectively, compared with the control group.
administration had a protective effect against the generated oxidative stress by reducing lipid peroxidation and increasing the levels of hepatic SOD and GSH. But in the intestine and spleen, the protective efficacy of silver nanoparticles was not significant and even the AgNP administered group revealed higher MDA levels and reduced GSH and SOD levels compared with the control group. So, no doubt, silver nanoparticles have the therapeutic and protective efficacy against Salmonella typhimurium infection, but long- term animal studies are required for the better comprehension of the toxicity of silver nanoparticles in an in-vivo system. This investigation encourages further studies on the mechanism underlying the antimicrobial and antioxidant effects of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles. More efforts need to be directed towards scientific evaluation of the efficacy of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles performing vigorous pre-clinical studies followed by clinical trials to unravel the mysteries hidden in the next-generation
Therefore, silver nanoparticleantimicrobials.
