• Do not notify parents/guardians about abuse until a report has been filed and Officers advise it is okay to notify them. Discuss notification process with officer to ensure clarity.
• Maintain confidentiality. If a child discloses abuse to you or you witness abuse, follow the process and report it to law enforcement. Not everyone needs to know about the abuse. Confidentiality must be kept by all staff involved.
5. Failure to report an incident could result in charges being filed against you either as a misdemeanor or felony depending on the abuse. Failing to report abuse could also open the door to civil liability against you individually and/or Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, or both.
You are protected from liability if the allegation is not substantiated because the report is made in good faith.
6. Supervisor must immediately update CEO/COO/HR of incident, additionally, all documentation must be forwarded to CEO/COO/HR once completed. CEO/COO will complete BGCA incident reporting process.
Policy No. 117 – Member Code of Conduct & Disciplinary Action
Member Code of Conduct
As members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, members are expected to conduct themselves according to the Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct is broken down by our FIVE Core Values: Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE) (see page 10) and is utilized by our staff members to set behavior guidelines and overall expectations.
Member Disciplinary Action
1. Disciplinary Action & Philosophy Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale believes in the full potential of every member, however in the case that a member breaks our code of conduct, we reserve the right to discipline members in order to redirect the negative behavior and to reinforce our values. To provide the best service to our members, staff members are proponents of using positive guidance and discipline, conflict resolution, and active supervision techniques.
Behavior that is unacceptable but does not rise to the level of Zero Tolerance should be documented using incident reporting and brought to the parent/guardian’s attention upon pickup for the day. Three major behavioral incidents in a 3-month period will require a suspension or expulsion depending on the severity. Unacceptable behavior includes:
• behavior that obstructs, disrupts, or interferes with a positive program experience for all Club members
• behavior that endangers or threatens the safety of any Club member, staff, or volunteer
• behavior that inflicts or threatens to inflict damage on Club members, Club employees, or the
Club’s facilities and/or vehicles
Any disciplinary action that would result in a member being suspended for more than one week must have prior approval of the Branch Director. Any disciplinary action that would result in a member
