unconsciousness or excessive vomiting, take the employee to get medical attention or call 911. Notify Human Resources as well as the Youth Development Supervisor, Branch Director, or other senior staff if they are not at the location at the time of incident.
If there is blood, liquids, or damaged property, keep other staff and members away from the area by blocking it off until maintenance or the authorities can address it. After given authorization by the Youth Development Supervisor or Branch Director, have the area of injury/illness cleaned. Use proper procedures in handling bloody or sharp material. Secure all unlocked property of the injured person and hold for the person or the family to pick up later.
A Workers Report of Injury Form must be completed by the employee and submitted to Human Resources for every injury or illness, as thoroughly as possible, even if medical attention is not necessary. Be sure to get names of all witnesses, including staff and others. Any staff members that were present must immediately complete an Incident Report and write a description of the incident and how it was handled. Report must include details such as names and times and must be written from 1st person perspective. The report and any attached documents are BGCS property and are not to be passed out to the injured party or anyone else until authorized to do so by the Branch Director. If the Employee is unable to complete this form, the employee’s direct supervisor (or supervisor on property) needs to complete the form on their behalf, including signing at the bottom of the form.
If the employee is exposed to bodily fluids other than their own, have that employee complete the Report of Significant Work Exposure to Bodily Fluids form.
