Policy No. 308 – Fitness Equipment Use
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale offers fitness as a component of teen programming in several facilities. To reduce the likelihood of injury or serious harm, members must adhere to the outlined equipment use guidelines:
Authorized Use
• Members of BGCS, regardless of age, must be under the supervision of a Weight Room Program Instructor while using the weight room facility.
• Only Staff who have received prior approval by their supervisor and who have been properly trained and/or oriented to BGCS’s specific weight room program structure, are to act as a Weight Room Program Instructor in the weight room facility.
• Inexperienced members must be given proper instruction prior to being allowed to use the facility (via group orientation or a one-on-one appointment with Weight Room Supervisor).
• Only BGCS members and staff are permitted to use the weight room.
• It is mandatory that all lifters use spotters on every set, including warm-ups.
• All lifters must use collars while doing any lift, which is even slightly dangerous (overhead lifts,
bench press, incline press, cleans, etc.)
• Weights are to be moved from the racks to the bars only. They are never to be thrown on the floor
or left there. After each session all the weight plates and apparatus should be picked up off the floor and racked or put in the proper place. Since heavy weights can be a problem for the next lifter to remove, no weight should be left on the bars.
• Supervising staff is responsible that weight room is returned to beginning set-up after each use. No weights or equipment should be left on the floor not properly racked or secured.
Weight Room Dress Code Policies
Members are required to wear appropriate footwear and attire. Jewelry and any items including electronics that may cause possible injury to the lifter are not permitted.
• FOOTWEAR: Shoes must always be worn. Only certain athletic shoes are permitted. These would be sneakers, tennis, basketball, jogging, volleyball, training, running, wrestling, lifting, or running shoes. Dress shoes, flip-flops, sandals, open-toe, and deck shoes are not permitted.
