YEAR IN REVIEW
The University of Calgary's Government Research Initiative (GRI) aims to
build sustainable, long-term partnerships with industry and government
through investment in research to bring new knowledge to market. The GRI
enables scholars and students to work together with partners outside of the
academy on solutions to big challenges facing the global energy industry.
Through GRI, the UofC supported two Graduate Assistant (Research)
positions to join the multidisciplinary team at CERI. The Graduate Assistants
conducted economic and associated environmental impact analysis of current
and relevant energy issues and helped to produce several of CERI's annual
studies.
Early in 2018, Bow Valley College and CERI agreed to pursue and promote
energy-related research and education regarding the economic and
environmental impacts of energy supply or demand. Looking ahead, this
exciting partnership will include the sharing of data, information and analysis
collected or produced during their activities, to advance the research and
educational work of the other party.
In addition, CERI and BVC have partnered to host the CERI Breakfast
Overview series of events which provide the public with a detailed briefing of
recent information related to the oil, gas and electricity supply and demand
markets, based on CERI research and other significant impacts on the
markets in Canada.
CERI and BVC have also agreed to identify work placement opportunities for
BVC students with placements working directly with CERI staff or with
members of the CERI network. Participating bodies may include but are not
limited to the Alberta Indigenous Construction Career Centre, Career
Connections, Connexion Carriere and Directions for Immigrants.
