IFIIS
At CSI we are a passionate team of professionals
dedicated to developing leading-edge technologies Specialist Items
in the fight against crime. CSI share ideas and
know-how with its customers and partners as
well as leading experts to develop and deliver
adapted solutions to create better results for Law
Enforcement.
A case in point is the development of IFIIS,
(Integrated Forensic Identification & Intelligence
System) a bespoke forensic analysis and
identification system for both large and small Law
Enforcement Agencies.
It is reasonable to assume that at almost every crime scene, the perpetrator must enter and leave the scene of CODE
crime. Therefore it is also reasonable to assume that his/her shoe impressions are present. 96830
In the past, little has been done about this wealth of information which in many cases has been ignored.
This is not because of indifference or laziness, but the inability to use the information to the best advantage. Crime Scene
Investigators are no different to anyone else. If your work produces no result, why bother?
Today, all that has changed. The recovery of shoe impressions at scenes has improved dramatically. But much more can be
done. Firstly, a system is required to store the impressions recovered. Obviously a computerized one would be best. Next a
system is needed to record and document those suspects coming into custody and thirdly a system that can compare and
identify the scenes where the suspect has been. Enter IFIIS.
IFIIS enables the inspection of the quality and quantity of scenes of crime footwear marks enabling targeting of refresher
training of staff where required. It is an intuitive system in use requiring very little training time to enable users to produce
productive results.
IFIIS enables the checking of case screening by peers, offering accurate, timely forensic intelligence and the screening in
of potentially useful cases for expert evidential examination. It offers the opportunity to make economical use within a
restricted financial environment of footwear evidence. IFIIS offers the ability to filter casework from local searches up to cross
border searches over selected time periods making footwear evidence manageable and productive.
Crime scene marks can be examined against a huge footwear database. Using ‘pattern descriptors’ within the system allows
the operator to narrow the field of search and identify the make and type of shoe under consideration. Using the side by side
and overlay features can give an excellent indication as to whether the suspect mark from the scene matches the shoe from
the suspect. Built in safeguards allow any work done to be audited for supervision purposes.
It is clear that criminals often commit more than one crime. IFIIS allows the investigator to analyze scenes and group those
common shoe patterns. There are also facilities for noting fingerprint and DNA finds which in combination increase the
identification of suspects and lends great weight in any subsequent legal proceedings.
You will be amazed at what IFIIS can do!
