deemed by the Head Coach or School Administration as excusable. A note should accompany the student upon return to
the team. The student should inform the Head Coach of any imminent absence or emergency situation.
Unexcused Absence – Any absence that is not excused as stated above. In addition, missing practice or an athletic
contest for a club, recreation, town or outside teams practice or contest is an unexcused absence. Student athletes that
accumulate three unexcused absences will be dismissed from the team.
Late to Practice – If an athlete is late to practice three times it will count as an unexcused absence.
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal – In order to participate in a practice or athletic contest athletes must abide by the following
rules:
1. Students must be in attendance for the school day in order to participate in a practice or athletic contest on that
particular day. This rule also applies to attendance on Friday for participation in an event on Saturday.
2. Students must be present for a minimum of four hours during a school day to be considered present for that day. On a
half day students must be present for the entire day. This policy also applies to a Friday before a Saturday activity.
3. The only exception to this rule would be a student who had an EXCUSED lateness or early dismissal, or an EXCUSED
absence for reasons other than suspension. A note must be presented upon arrival for lateness, and prior administrative
permission must be obtained for an early dismissal or an Excused absence. Permission will be granted only for death in
the family, court appearance, verified appointment with a physician, or a NJ driver’s examination. Lateness, absence or
early dismissal for illness without a doctor’s note, work, babysitting, hairdressing appointments, auto repairs, job
interviews, oversleeping are examples of activities that may not be considered an excusable absence by the coaching
staff. Athletes must be present at the practice the day prior to a contest or they may not participate. The only exception
is if the absence is an excused absence by the administration.
Transportation
All students MUST travel on the bus to and from all Pine Hill School District athletic events. If there is an extenuating
circumstance where a parent believes it is necessary to pick their child up from the contest, they must provide the coach
with a travel release form 24 hours in advance. The request MUST be reviewed and approved by the Athletic Director in
order for the athlete to leave with a parent or guardian. Any emergency that requires alternate transportation must be
cleared by the Athletic Director. A coach cannot clear a student. If the Athletic Director cannot be contacted the student
must ride the bus!
- Athletes that participate in consecutive seasons must return all equipment and fulfill all obligations prior to
competing in an athletic contest for the next sport or extra-curricular activity.
- Blatant disrespect towards any member of the coaching staff will not be tolerated. This will result in dismissal from
the team.
- Good sportsmanship is expected at all times.
- Athletes must complete the entire season to be eligible to earn a letter.
- The Head Coach decides the lineups and who plays and to what extent. This is non- negotiable.
- The coaching staff recommends and supports students staying after school with their teachers to get extra help if
needed. If a student stays for extra help, the student athlete must bring a note from the teacher.
- No hazing, bullying or harassment will be tolerated. In the event that a student athlete commits an act of hazing,
he or she will be immediately removed from the Overbrook athletic team and referred to the Board of Education
for possible team suspension.
Coaches may add to this list for team specific rules in addition to the above rules. The team specific rules are “in addition
to” not to replace or reduce any of the above listed rules.
