Final Lesson: What is an Architect?
What is an Architect?
An architect is a licensed professional who organizes space. Architects design houses, office
buildings, skyscrapers, landscapes, ships, and even entire cities. The also design outdoor spaces.
Those are called landscape architects.
In this section we will do our final project. It will take several weeks to do. We are going to be
architects and designers. First, we will study a bit about architecture and then begin our outdoor
fitness project. Let’s get creative!
• Theoretical, practical, and contextual issues that influence design
• The relationship between architecture and the external environment
• The use of computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) in developing architectural
designs
• How to systematically complete an architectural project
• The effective use of architectural and structural equipment
1. What do architects do?
2. How is a landscape architect different than one that designs building?
3. How is CAD and technical drawing used in today’s workplace?
