Types of Technology
• WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY?
• PPT and Video Worksheet
Technology is designed with a purpose of solving problems; it has to meet human needs and
wants. We use technology in so many ways; at least everyone uses technology in one-way or
another. Since technology can be so simple or so complex, there are many types of technology:
Mechanical Technology - which includes wheels, cams, levers, gears, belts, and engines. Things
that turn or allow motion in one direction to cause a different kind of motion, are mechanical.
The wheel is probably one of the most important technological advances in human history, and
yet it's super simple.
Electronic Technology - Technology that uses electric circuits to achieve a goal. But, anything
that runs on electricity is electronic. This includes computers, washing machines, dryers, care
radios, MP3 players, televisions – anything you can plug into the wall outlet.
Communication Technology - This is a system that uses technical means to transmit
information or data from one place to another or from one person to another.
Construction Technology - the study of advanced methods and equipment used to build basic
and advanced structures
Assistive Technology - s used by people with disabilities to accomplish specific tasks that are
difficult or impossible to perform.
Medical Technology - is used to extend and improve human life. Medical technology reduces
patient’s pain and cares for an injury.
