1 Hope Arts is under the direction of actor, playwright and pastor, David Taylor, of Austin, Texas. In 2008 Hope Arts is presenting “Transforming
Culture, a vision for the Church and the Arts” with featured speaker Eugene Peterson among others. This quote comes from the advertisement
editorial for the event. See: www.transformingculture.org/about.html

2 D.A, Carson in his book, The Gagging of God, argues that there are three forms of pluralism: empirical pluralism-the fact that our world
globally is simply ethnically diverse; cherished pluralism-which refers to the tendency to value this reality as a positive factor for global
development and philosophical pluralism which is a universalistic ideology based on relativism and existentialism which asserts that there
are no absolutes. The first two are essentially amoral, facts of our growing global world, the third, is the cause of the disintegration of western
          societies.

4 The occasional paper for the Redeeming the arts track for the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism held in Thailand in 2004 cited both
these and other causes for the alienation of artists. This paper is well worth reading for all evangelical leaders who have a heart to care for
artists in their congregations. Colin Harbinson led this track and reproduced the paper in a Special Edition of THE CREATIVE SPIRIT in 2005.

5 In a Stanford Presidential Lectures publication in the Humanities and the Arts Derrida attempted to give an answer reluctantly: “It is impossible
to respond," Mr. Derrida said. "I can only do something which will leave me unsatisfied." But after some prodding, he gave it a try anyway. "I
often describe deconstruction as something which happens. It's not purely linguistic, involving text or books. You can deconstruct gestures,
choreography. That's why I enlarged the concept of text." http://prelectur.stanford.edu/lecturers/derrida/

10 This quote came from “Art and Christianity - A dilemma” by Garold Andersen and is found on the website:
www.watershedarts.com. Garold, founder and director of Watershed Arts, has over 35 years of experience in
engaging people and people-groups creatively. He is an actor, mentor and life coach to many and the engine behind
Watershed’s projects. “Assisting another country or culture isn’t just bringing solutions. We must partner with others
to create new, relevant, cultural solutions.”

11 I honestly could not resist quoting Heather Zempel’s blog where she reviewed Steve Turner’s Imagine. She is Pastor of Discipleship at
National Community Church in Washington, DC. See: www. discipleshipgroups.blogspot.com/

12 The text comes from the recording Hidden Treasures that was recorded in 1989 inspired from Psalms 119:67 and my personal experiences.
Having experienced God’s abundant tender mercies in my own life, the song expresses the value of God’s faithful covenant dealings in our lives
and how His judgment, in reality, is an expression of His mercy. “When He judges us, its mercy, He really wants to make us whole, He wants
to make us whole.” He longs set our lives on His tracks and bring us to new places in our character, vision and authority for His sake. (Ps 23:3)

13 In Psalms 4, 5, & 6 note that David arranged some of his Psalms musically. In Psalm 4 it reads, “For the choir director on stringed instruments.”
In chapter 5 he introduces the Psalm prescribing, “For the choir director for flute accompaniment.” In Psalm 6 he specifies that an eight-string
lyre should be employed. God gave David this creative liberty to express his heart aesthetically in praise to God.

14 It is important to think about words. Too often we develop a vocabulary that is alien to our world, to the point that when we speak, we have
to provide a dictionary of our holy terms so that they can follow us. The word entertain comes from two Latin words, the prefix ‘enter’ meaning
