A SERIES OF ESSAYS ON NOTABLE OLD DERBEIANS
 No. 1
ALAN HALDENBY 1916-2007
Alan newly commissioned 1939
Looking through the archive boxes of the Old Derbeian Society I came across records and correspondence relating to an old boy and former member of the OTC (Officer Training Corps) which I thought might be of interest to others, and so the idea grew of creating a brief biography of a young man who left school at the end of the 1930s and was incarcerated by the Japanese during World War Two. Fortunately his daughter Pat was like myself a member of the Derbyshire Archaeological Society, and provided valuable information about her father, who – it turns out – was interviewed on TV in 1997 about his wartime experiences, whilst wearing an OD tie. A record that has yet to be beaten!
