deceive her audience. A thinking person is not
deceived by absurd rants.
5. Deception grabs “Judge-Jury-Hangman” authority to
humiliate opponents with no supporting facts. Today,
the political world is more about creating perceptions
of fact, rather than adhering to truth. For example,
during election times one often hears claims of voter
suppression. Such accusations are often made with
virtually no supporting evidence. An accusation with
no evidence should prompt objective thinkers to ask
questions. Are duly cast, legal votes being
suppressed? If so, this is not good. Are illegal votes
being counted? If so, this is a crippling breach of our
Republic. Often false claims are made simply to
create conflict, the old “somebody done somebody
wrong song”. Even if false, such claims have proven
to be effective tactics for provoking anger,
resentment and sympathy that a losing candidate can
exploit to remain viable.
One may recall that such conflicts arose in the 2018
gubernatorial and senate elections in Florida and
Georgia. Both elections were very close. Both
became mired in questionable claims of voter
suppression. In both cases, state election officials
ruled that voter suppression did not occur since votes
with questionable legality were not counted. Still,
such claims bolstered the losing candidates as they
rode the circuits of progressive leaning talk shows
and public forums. Such claims deserve serious
efforts to determine the true facts.
