- Resorts to absurd accusations with little to no basis
in fact in order to inflict intense humiliation onto an
opponent. For many, the false perception is what
lingers, truth doesn’t matter. When bold or
misleading assertions are made, sound thinkers
must objectively seek the facts. Such
assertions/accusations are usually contrived to
advance a blatantly false narrative!
One of the more grotesque examples of this tactic
came in the 2020 Presidential primary debates.
Candidate Marianne Williamson accused President
Trump of kidnapping children and child abuse. Her
accusation was based on the President’s border
policy that followed existing laws. For valid
reasons, families entering illegally were temporarily
separated from their children. Often children who
are accompanying adults are victims of child
trafficking. Temporary separations may be
necessary to protect children. Candidate Williamson
conveniently ignored this fact as she made absurdly
false accusations. She also ignored the fact that
many children are separated every day on the
streets across the nation. This is common when
citizens commit serious crimes and are arrested.
Each day, there are children who are taken from
parents, and temporarily placed in separate
accommodations. In this case, children are housed
either with family members or are placed
temporarily in foster homes. Candidate Williamson
used hyperbole as she was intentionally trying to
