Dr. Paul Farmer spoke with aluma, Laurie Nuell about his soon to be released book on the Ebola
epidemic in Sierra Leone and wanted to raise awareness about the issue. Because of her passion
for social art, International Baccalaureate art teacher, Patricia Wiesen was asked to create a project
for the Carrollton community. Dr. Farmer spoke with High School students about his experiences
working with patients in the poorest countries in the world. IB Visual Art students conducted
extensive research and created designs to communicate not only the extent of this devastating
epidemic, but to explore the role that poverty plays within the issue of global health equity.
Students also participated in a class discussion with Nancy Kehoe, RSCJ, about the psycho-social
effects of an. epidemic
within a community.
