A small team with a big heart, the track team’s success
continued this year, as they said goodbye
to their Coach of 7 years
This year, the track team faced a challenge as they moved up
to Class 2A, competing against larger schools. Still, members
of the team improved their times and distances throughout the
season, setting new personal records and advancing to the Regional
Championships. Sophomore Alex Pizzi made huge contributions
to the team, returning from a student exchange program to lead
the team in the high jump and triple jump events. The 4x100
meter relay team advanced to Regionals after trying several different
runners in the anchor position. Sophomore Caroline Darmody, who
tried many different events throughout the season, ran the 4x100
as a substitute at the Regional meet. Senior Laurie O'Connor also
participated in Regionals, running the 4 0 0 meter dash and the long
jump. Assistant Coach Caitlyn Fantauzzi was an important addition
to the team, as Head Coach Mary Aparicio was pregnant with her
third child, born during the Regional meet. The beloved Coach "A"
will be retiring from her head coaching position to spend more time
with her family. She will be greatly missed, but the team's talent
should carry them successfully through the next few seasons.
