          The Fairchild Challenge is an environmental-education outreach program that gives students the opportunity to utilize their diverse^
          talents and interests. Students compete in a series o f multidisciplinary competitions or “options” aligned with state and national
          standards. This year, both the Junior High and High School participated in the Fairchild Challenge with entries in a number of different
          categories.Junior High students created a garden outside Taylor Hall which featured a variety o f flowers and the Sacred Heart logo
          made out o f river rock. Seventh grade student Julie Eisenacher won honorable mention for her pencil watercolor o f an areca palm in
          the Art o f Palms Challenge. In November, ten o f the freshman environmental projects were selected and compiled into a booklet that
          earned our students a first place ranking. O f the five research papers submitted on topics such as, phytoremdeiation, ecotourism and
          “smart growth, Elizabeth Turner’s paper received honorable mention. Mrs. Abreu’s Photography class submitted photographs for
         art in nature, while Mrs.  Rodriguez’ Improv class produced and performed a Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle skit. The skit won anotheMg
          FIRST PLACE! Mrs. Turner's journalism class documented these events. Mrs. Weisen’s introduction to Studio Art students created  ;
         truly spectacular watercolors for the “Art o f Palms.” Mrs. Panzer’s religion classes produced stories and PowerPoints on eco-justic^B
         The sophomores had the most enjoyable time creating a habitat restoration. This was a wonderful opportunity and a fun filled year for
         everyone. Alyssa Lindsay expresses her enjoyment working in the habitat restoration, "The finished product showed us that helping dlir
         environment is more about caring then anything else. All it takes is some hard work and a lot o f diligence.”
