By Carolina De La Torre '18
"the Hearts and Butterflies Club was introduced to Carrollton in 2314-2015. The mission of Hearts and Butterflies is to raise awareness and
educate the com m unity about the problem o f domestic violence * which often goes unreported. The club works with Alicia's Village, a non
profit organization, and with Safe Space Foundation. The club members have the opportunity to volunteer at events at the Safe Space shelters
on holidays, where they interact with wom en and play with children. This year the founder o f Alicia's Village, Alicia Consuegra, spoke to the high
school students about teen dating violence with the hope that girls are better able to identify unhealthy relationships in their lives. The club also
sold bracelets: and hosted a bake sale to raise money fo r wom en in shelters.
