JUNIOR HIGH
After two years at the Junior High, I think we are able to say we have become our own persons and have
gained knowledge by taking on more responsibilities. When we first entered the Junior High, none of us
knew what to expect, but we worked through this new challenge as a class. I believe that Goal V is the
most significant Goal for us. A very important thing which we take with us to the High School, is that we
have learned to assume responsibility for our own actions. We have developed a respect for ourselves
and learned from our mistakes. The Junior High has given us the freedom we needed in order to
discover who we truly are. We had many opportunities to showcase our talents and abilities to our peers
and the whole Junior High community. We learned to be present when and where we're supposed to
be and to make good decisions for ourselves.

These butterflies represents our transition from children
of the Sacred Heart to young women of the Sacred
Heart who will seek their full potential. We have all the
possibilities in the world and making good decisions will
enable us to reach our goals to be all we can be. As 8th
graders, we prepared to leave the Junior High for the
High School, and we will have spread our wings to the
maximum allowing life to take us wherever we dream.

       HIGH SCHOOL
Goal V is epitomized at the High School level. It is the "wise freedom" granted in the Ninth through Twelfth
Grades that the Junior High girls count the days toward, the Intermediate girls talk about, and the Primary
girls gaze at awestruck. The High School is home to Carrollton's oldest girls, and because of their age and
maturity, they are granted free periods, open Socratic-style discussions in class, and much more. The
"atmosphere of wise freedom" exists as it does because there is a trust between the faculty and students,
an unspoken agreement whereby students are
granted the freedom to make either wise or foolish
decisions, whether they be in reference to how you
spend your time or with whom you spend it. But
more than the freedom itself is what comes with
it: the responsibility to choose wisely. Carrollton
is unique in this aspect because all the girls in the
High School come to choose, perhaps without
even realizing, to uphold their end of the bargain.
Therein lies the personal growth. So younger girls,
do not underestimate the High School liberties,
such as free period, but keep in mind that Goal V
runs deeper than that, too. - Marie McGrath '10
