teaches empathy & social cognition
WHAT WE KNOW / UNDERSTAND PICTURE PROMPTS
▪ Repair Time restores justice. It means that everyone knows their
feelings count and matter and so, if they suffer harm, it will always be
taken seriously.
▪ Repair Time maintains positive relationships: Repair Time is essential
to ensure relationships stay strong. It makes sure relationships are not
fractured for too long and it helps them to heal and become positive
again.
▪ Repair Time communicates high expectations within a spirit of
support: Repair Time communicates high expectations for pro-social
behaviour within a spirit of support.
▪ Repair Time builds Emotional Intelligence & Social Cognition: I know
that empathy is a skill and forcing an apology will not improve a child’s
empathic skills. I know this skill is developed by supporting the child’s
own emotional needs as well as providing opportunities for them to
hear how things were for others. Repair Time provides this opportunity
for listening to the thoughts and feelings of others and for exploring
different perspectives; this improves empathy and social cognition.
▪ Repair Time builds the Executive Function Skill of Flexible Thinking:
Repair Time provides opportunities for thinking through different
solutions, thereby supporting the development of flexible thinking
skills.
