Big Message 3:
Self-soothing is GREAT. But it is not
enough on its own.
Everyone has times when there needs are not met fully and stress
chemicals are released into their body. This is a normal part of life.
Nobody can feel great all the time.
We call this tolerable stress Cortisol
Being able to self-soothe when we have tolerable stress is
an important skill. And you are getting great at it!
o ic tress If the same problem keeps repeating and it is never
solved it can turn into a bad stress that is called toxic
stress. That is when the body can go into a stress
response.
e.g. Imagine a bee was buzzing in your ear while you were trying to
study. It would be annoying but it would be tolerable.
Now imagine that the bee buzzed in your ear
constantly for days and weeks on end.
Really loudly! It would no longer be tolerable.
It would be super important to solve the problem
of the buzzing.
