Growth Zones
Sometimes we have to do tasks that are a bit boring and cannot meet our
needs. Being able to tolerate boring tasks and keep our attention going is
therefore a really important skill in life.
There are two main ways you can help yourself to focus even when things
are really boring or difficult:
1. Chunk the task up & reduce the cortisol. Do 10 minutes of a task or
a part of a task then stop. Time yourself for a 3 minute break. During
this break, the job is to reduce the cortisol which may have built up in
your body when you were coping with the boring task. Exercise is a good
way to drain out some cortisol – 3 minutes running around the garden,
dancing to a song, running up and down the stairs – there are lots of
different things that can help.
