2e. Give children lots of opportunity for
rehearsal of EF skill goals
Recreating situations so that children can practise skills in
(semi) real contexts is the ideal way to improve EF skills:
For example, Flexible Thinking can be improved
through repeating tasks such as Chair Swap as
often as possible:
▪ Present lots of real issues / scenarios
▪ Ask the child to sit in each of the different
seats and think what that person’s perspective
might be.
▪ Invite people to explain their perspectives in
person to the young person
▪ Explore together what differences and
similarities exist.
