Everyone around a child needs to recognise that unmet needs, poorly
balanced neurobiology & weaker Executive Function makes it harder for a
child to manage and can lead to unhelpful reactions. We might see:
Needs-seeking actions Threat-based / overwhelm reactions
Simply quashing behaviours through reward and punishment may work as a quick fix
but it is unlikely to last. To be effective, an approach must empower the child to:
a) address the unmet needs in helpful ways and
b) build the skills to manage unmet needs better.
