Emotional Flexibility
Emotional Flexibility is being able to think about how serious a
problem is and match our feelings accurately.
▪ For example, if someone was on an overnight trip and was missing
their family, someone with emotional flexibility would think:
“I am missing my family but I will not be away forever. I can have
fun here and look forward to seeing them when I get back.”
▪ If someone’s brother dropped their toy and it broke, someone
with emotional flexibility would think:
“This is upsetting, but it is only a toy. This is not real danger. I have
other toys”
