P. 58
Overview Answers
5. The Empowerment Approach is different to other approaches in its
focus on the child understanding how their brain ticks. It focuses on the
child learning about their brain and being empowered to communicate
their needs well and feel motivated to build any missing skills. It has
the central principle that to take control and change things, we must
first understand them.
It is also a whole school approach and definitely not reserved for
children who present with inconvenient or concerning behaviours. The
approach is a whole school (or whole family/organisation) approach –
for everyone – whatever age. It provides a shared language so that
everyone is empowered to understand themselves and each other and
have a language to communicate needs positively.
6. The programme combines neuroscience, psychology, coaching and
education.
